My Ideal Journey
It has to be a train. Kind of crowdie, wind gushing in from the open window, with people chattering around, smelling of eatables, hawkers shouting and the train is preparing to stop in a tiny station. That’s the moment.
In a wintery morning get up in a train with A and the kids. Eat a snacky lunch, fall of to sleep trying to read a fat book, get up around 3 at noon when the tea vendors shouts.
Get off the train at the next station, obscure the better. Find a place to stay may be in the station waiting room. Take a rickshaw to the market place, ask around for the local attractions. Fix up a friendly talkative rickshaw wala for the trip. Ask around, take lots of photo, laugh a lot, splash some water with the feet, smell some wild flower, eat at the dirty roadside joints.
At evening sit around a fire with the railway porters arguing about politics, listening to their stories and songs. Go sleep in the waiting room full of smoke from the mosquito repellent. Wake up at mid night when the through train passes shaking the platform and making monstrous noise.
Stay back few days if it feels good or next morning take the train back home.
Repeat once every 2 month.
